Council members organize concert with local bands
Although freshman Aiden Foner typically only plays classical music during orchestra class, she will be rocking out to different tunes at her concert Feb. 7.
This year, the orchestra’s Rock & Roll concert, scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria, will feature a range of music from Latin Rock to Metallica’s “Unforgiven.” As the event approaches, members of the Orchestra Council are working to coordinate the concert.
According to junior Co-President Arden Chrisciel, the orchestra is planning to play some music by themselves but will mostly be collaborating with local bands.
“(The council) has been working hard at organizing bands to play with at the event and has been figuring out what pieces to play,” he said.
Junior Co-President Johnny Somaiah said he hopes the show goes well and is most excited about having local bands perform in the concert.
“It will be fun to play with the bands and see how their style of music compares to ours,” he said.
Additionally, Somaiah said the concert is also a way to help the orchestra raise money for their trip to London and Paris in 2014. Although the event is free, donations are welcome.
Foner said he thinks the bands will aid in the fundraising process.
“(Band members) might invite people who don’t know us, but know them,” he said. “This will get more people to come to the concert, which is our goal.”
