Jeanne Hendricks describes the daily routine of being a Nurse Anesthesia at the Med Club meeting Thursday, Feb. 25.

Although the semester ended, Medical Educational Development Club is just beginning, according to club president senior Kaylee Chamberlain.

According to Chamberlain, plans for Medical Educational Development (MED) Club for second semester include field trips and multiple speakers.

“We have a field trip that we’re trying to get going that will probably be towards the end of February or beginning of March,” Chamberlain said. “We’ll be going to the University of Minnesota Children’s Masonic Hospital and then possibly tour some other facilities that same day.”

MED Club adviser Casie Budolfson said future speakers for the club include a midwife and a pharmacist, while an obstetrician-gynecologist spoke Feb. 4. Budolfson said she wants students in the club to obtain a broader view of the medical field, along with more information on specific jobs.

“I want the students to be able to get a wide variety of people in the medical career so they can see what is all out there in the different fields,” Budolfson said.

Chamberlain, who founded the club last year, said the speakers give students the basic information of their jobs, and bring in fun activities for them to do.

“Different speakers will have different activities,” Chamberlain said. “We had a speaker come in where we actually saw photos of different dead bodies and had to figure out how they died and such, which can seem kind of gruesome but it’s actually very helpful for the members to see what these jobs entail.”

According to Budolfson, if students have interest in joining MED Club they can talk with her or Chamberlain, or stop by one of the meetings.

MED Club’s next meeting takes place at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 18 in room A310.
