Junior Jonny Sorenson was nominated for Player of the Week Jan. 9-14 in account of the boys’ varsity hockey game against Chaska Jan 10. Sorenson scored three goals and an assist during the game, resulting in a 4-2 win for Park.

In addition to accomplishing its 14-6 record so far this season, the boys’ varsity hockey team is also celebrating three Star Tribune Player of the Week nominations.

Junior goaltender Atticus Raasch was recently nominated for the Star Tribune’s Minnesota Hockey Hub Player of the Week for Jan. 16-21.

Raasch said he feels successful about his hockey achievements as he reads feedback on social media.

“It’s cool to be noticed. It’s not everyday you get to see your name and have tweets about you,” Raasch said.

Raasch said his nomination shows how teamwork helps strengthen personal skills.

“I think it just demonstrates that if your team does well, then you have personal success. (Success) comes as a team first, and it comes to everyone coming together and winning,” Raasch said.

Junior forward Jonny Sorensen, nominated Jan. 9-14, said he felt proud of his nomination.

“It’s a great honor. I have many teammates that could’ve been nominated. We have a strong team this year, so I’m very pleased and blessed to have such great teammates,” Sorensen said.

When senior captain Bauer Neudecker received the nomination during the week of Dec. 26-31, he said he felt exhilarated.

“It was cool to be honored for something that I did, but it was also cool for the team since we did so well,” Neudecker said.

Varsity hockey coach Colin Hohman said the team focuses on celebrations rather than individual recognitions.

“I don’t think any individual awards or individual recognitions have an impact at all. It wouldn’t help the program, it would help the individual,” Hohman said.

Raasch said the team’s recognitions this season make him feel prouder to be on the team.

“(I’m) mostly just glad our team seems to be doing well and had a couple of nominees like Bauer and Jonny”, Raasch said.
