A-List Athlete

Who: Mikey Segal, freshman Sport: Boys’ golf

Overall, how did you feel about the season?

I felt that it went well. This is my first year, and it was a great experience. It was a lot of fun to play and to improve.

How did the bad weather affect the team?
The season felt short because there was about a month where we couldn’t do anything. We went to some indoor places to hit, but it was difficult.

What was your favorite part about being on the team?
I really liked being able to improve. I switched from baseball and this was very different, so it was cool to see myself get better as the season went on. The people were also really great.

Why did you start playing?
I started playing because I love sports, and because I was sick of baseball. I had played baseball for about 13 years.

Have you played any other sports that helped with golf?
I did cheerleading, which gave me awareness of my body strength.

Did golf teach you any lessons?
It taught me to trust myself and stay positive. The rest of the team was really positive, which helped a lot.

What was your favorite memory of being on the team?
My first varsity event was my favorite memory. It was really exciting, and it was the first event of the season, which made it even more exciting.

What are some of your goals for the offseason?
I just want to improve and become the best I can be before the next season starts.

Are you planning to play next year?
Yes, because it was a lot of fun, and the people who were on the team were good people to be friends with.

What was the team dynamic this year?
It was very good. I felt really welcome and there was a lot of support from the team. Our team is really close.

What kinds of bonding activities did the team do?
There weren’t any official bonding activities, but we drove to meets together and we bonded a lot through those drives.

What did the team do for practice?
We would go out to ranges and hit some balls and work on putting. One of the most important parts of practice was when we hit practice rounds. We went to the weight room once, but that wasn’t a part of our season really.

What was the average experience level of the team?
The team was rebuilding this year because a lot of the seniors left last year. There were a lot of new people and, as they were new, we did pretty well.

What was the team record like?
I don’t know the exact numbers, but since we were new, we didn’t win much. We played well for how much experience we had.
