Meet the Athlete: Anna Gleason
How long have you been on the team?
I have been in the high school hockey program for four years.
What position do you play?
I play as a goalie.
How long have you played hockey?
I have played hockey for nine years.
How does it feel to be a senior?
It’s scary how fast senior year has come. It feels like it wasn’t that long ago that I was a freshman looking up at all of the accomplished upperclassmen on the team.
What will you miss most about hockey?
The thing I will miss most about hockey is the bond I shared with my teammates. We became so close over the course of our careers and it will be different to not have those relationships the same way.
How have you grown as a player during your high school career?
I have become much more confident in my hockey abilities. This has improved my performance because I am more willing to take risks.
What was your favorite hockey memory from this season?
My favorite hockey memory was beating Benilde 3-1 at the Rec Center. That was a big confidence builder going into the rest of the season, and I think it helped us a lot.
How do you think the seniors leaving this year will impact the team?
The seniors were all strong role models for the younger girls on the team, so I think it will be different next year. However, I know they will grow into leadership roles in the coming years and learn from the current upperclassmen.
Do you plan to continue hockey beyond high school?
Yes, I hope to play some type of club hockey in college. However, I have not yet decided where I will be attending.
How has hockey impacted you as a person off the ice?
Playing hockey has increased my confidence in my personal life and in social situations.
