When did you start playing golf?
I started playing when I was about four or five. I would go to the course with my dad and he got me into it. I started playing in tournaments when I was about nine or 10. (I was initially drawn to) the challenge of it, and the fact that you could play golf by yourself, just you against the course, or with other people.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes just getting into the sport?
Play a lot of golf, especially if you enjoy it. Get out in the summer with your friends and play a bunch. Just try to enjoy the experience whether you’re shooting good or bad.
What are your goals as a captain this year?
Just to have fun, have a fun team culture and obviously motivate the team to shoot some low scores and do well at sections. (I want to) enjoy the experience and have fun practices for the team.
What is your favorite part about playing golf?
Just hitting good shots is a lot of fun. Ultimately, it’s probably the challenge of it. You’ll hit a bunch of really bad shots and you’ll hate it, and then you just hit one really good shot and it’s so fun. I think just trying to improve and get better is what makes it fun.
How does it feel to be in your final season of high school golf?
It hasn’t hit me yet. It feels like not that long ago I was a little eighth grader on varsity. It’s surreal that it’s about to be over soon. I’ve made so many good memories and it’s been so much fun over the years.
What’s been your favorite memory so far from high school golf?
(My favorite memory) was qualifying for the state tournament as an individual my sophomore year. I remember it was fun. We went to a Shake Shack with the team afterwards since we shot the lowest team score in school history.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned in your time on the golf team?
(To) enjoy all the moments with your team and teammates no matter if you play good or play bad. Just enjoy all the little moments with your team because it goes by fast and I’m sure I’ll miss it.
