With the yearbook sale ending date quickly approaching, the Echowan staff works hard to get its final sales done, according to adviser Julianne Herbert.

According to Herbert, the end of sales each year brings in high stress for the staff because it has to get as many people as possible to buy the yearbook. However, Herbert said because of busy schedules, the staff sometimes has trouble selling to students in January.

“This part is always hard because people have a lot on their minds and a lot of things that they have to take care of and if it’s not in front of them, it’s hard for them to remember to get it done,” Herbert said.

According to senior business manager Kate Ruhland, the Echowan staff has sold 500 yearbooks out of its goal of 700 so far this year.

“We’re a little worried about it, but ultimately we know what we need to do to reach our goal and we’re working towards that right now,” Ruhland said. “We know the steps we need to take to get there.”

According to senior public relations officer Eric Hendricks, one major technique the staff will utilize to reach the sales goal includes getting students’ parents involved in buying their child’s yearbook.

“There’s a newsletter that goes out every single week on Wednesday and we’ve been trying to use that the past couple weeks to get to the parents,” Hendricks said.

Hendricks said the staff members also plan to attend sporting events in order to reach out to parents.

Ruhland said having online sales and a website helped the staff exceed the number of yearbooks sold from last year during this time by creating a more convenient way for students to buy a yearbook.

“Pushing online sales and having a website where people can directly go to online sales instead of having to look it up on the website helped create that motivation,” Ruhland said. “It was easier and people could get it done faster.”

According to Ruhland, students can buy yearbooks for $70 until Jan. 24. Students can purchase a yearbook online on the Echowan website at http://www.slpechowan.com/ or in room B229 with a check made out to Balfour.
