Day One’s tradition of the morning pepfest, picnic lunch, and afternoon activities on the first day of school continued this year with good results, according to students.

Media Assistant Danya Castro is the Day One coordinator. She said she thinks students enjoyed the day overall.

“I think it went pretty great, the activities went really well,” Castro said. “The dodgeball was a big hit, and the obstacle course.”

Junior Jack Reddan was one of the students called to participate in the dodgeball game during the pepfest. He said when he was chosen he was surprised, but it turned out to be entertaining.

“It was a fun thing to do since it got me to stand up instead of just sitting,” Reddan said.

Freshman Kaila Rich said she enjoyed being able to walk around and talk to other students outside.

“It was nice because the weather was so perfect,” Rich said. “It was a great start to a new school year.”

Junior Sharon Moranga is a member of the Day One club, which started planning for the first day of school in July. She said she thinks Day One achieved what they set out to do.

“The whole point was to get the students excited and happy to be back,” Moranga said. “I feel like we accomplished that.”

Castro said specifically the airbrush tattoo artist, which was added this year, was very well received.

“[It] was a great hit, it was very popular,” Castro said. “They do a good job.”

Castro also said she is already thinking about how to make next year even better.
