Reflecting on his recent Home and Garden Television home makeover, St. Louis Park resident Dan Countryman said the renovation, while exciting, came with challenges.

“We truly came in here before they did any renovations and saw the house like it was before and didn’t come back until it was done on the reveal day,” Countryman said. “It is stressful but I think if you’re going to renovate a house it’s going to be stressful no matter what.”

Countryman, along with his family, will be featured on an upcoming episode of Home and Garden Television’s (HGTV) new Minnesota-based show “Stay or Sell.”

According to Countryman, not controlling your home renovation allows special touches to be added to the house.

“We got some cool features and it just feels a little more personal,” Countryman said. “For example, they built me a little bar.”

According to junior Kate Gage, the show highlighting St. Louis Park creates local interest.

“The attention is really special and really important for the community to bond and be excited together,” Gage said.

Sophomore Georgia Charpentier, who enjoys watching HGTV, said “Stay or Sell” may help put St. Louis Park on the map.

“It’s very good publicity for St. Louis Park  to be on TV because we aren’t a very popular or rich city,” Charpentier said.

Countryman said he appreciates St. Louis Park’s convenient location and welcoming atmosphere.

“We just love how close everything is — the high school, elementary school, great parks, even driving to downtown Minneapolis,” Countryman said.

According to Countryman, “Stay or Sell” airs Sept. 17 on HGTV. Countryman’s home will be shown in episode four.
