Orchestra rocks fundraiser

School concert to help pay for future trip

The high school orchestra plans to take a trip to Italy over the summer of 2018 and in order to raise funds, they recently held a rock concert that served as a fundraiser.

Orchestra Director Miriam Edgar said the orchestra’s recent rock concert, which took place Feb. 23, helped the school orchestra raise money for their trip.

“So we raised about 3500 dollars (if not) just a little bit more, which is awesome and that will cover 5-7, maybe even up to 10 instruments whether we rent or we bring them,” Edgar said. “So now that’s a huge cost that student won’t have to pay for. We don’t have the costs covered for all of our instruments yet but we still have more fundraisers coming up.”

Junior Jack Dooley said he believes the concert was overall a success.

“I think it went really well. We play a lot of songs and it was fun to play with the band,” Dooley said. “Yeah. I think that the money that we made would be a huge help toward the trip.”

Sophomore David Benjamin said he enjoyed himself by playing in a new environment.

“Well the concert was pretty good. That was the first time I’ve played with a band,” Benjamin said. “It was a cool experience.”

Benjamin said without the fundraiser the trip would be almost out of reach.

“It’ll be be a very cool experience to go to italy, but it’s very expensive so I’m glad we did the fundraiser,” Benjamin said.

Edgar said she feels satisfied with how the concert went.

“I’m so happy on so many levels. First of all the kids just had so much fun,” Edgar said. “The band had so much fun. I think it was really important for the band to get to work in an orchestra situation. Also I think some thing that was amazing was just the energy from the audience.”

Benjamin said the sales will definitely help pay for the trip.

“I think it’s going to help a lot because Mrs. Edgar said this was our best turnout ever not just a rock concert in general,” Benjamin said. “So I think that it will help the trip.”
