Club sport cancelled due to waning involvement

The club sport known as Quidditch,  based off of the magical sport in the fictional series of “Harry Potter,” no longer exists.

Former captain, senior Sam Olson said he is disappointed in the rest of the participants lack of dedication.

“I would bring all the materials and five people would show up. Then just three, then two until no one came at all and I just sat there alone,” Olson said.

However, the club didn’t always function this way. Former adviser Julianne Herbert said when she started in 2011 it ran much more smoothly.

“The first year we had really nice weather and a good place to play,” Herbert said.

Olson said there are other Quidditch teams in the state but they never competed.

“We would meet at a park every Sunday and scrimmage each other because nobody was willing to play,” Olson said.

Olson said he doesn’t think another activity replaced the students interest in this one.

“I think just a lack of interest replaced it, not anything else,” Olson said. “Maybe they had too much homework, or at least that’s is what everybody said when they stopped showing up.”

Herbert said she is sad the club couldn’t continue.

“I understand that if it is something that people don’t have time for, that is the reality,” Herbert said. “I wish that it was still going on because it wasn’t a huge time commitment, and it was very nice way on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, to get an hour of good exercise and just have fun.”
