National Honor Society is an organization focused on scholarships, leadership and volunteering. This is met through individual volunteer hours and meetings which take place once a month.

NHS will begin the year with ice breaker activities so students will feel more comfortable in the program.

Jenny Magdal is returning as NHS leader this year and said she is excited to get the year off to a strong start.

“The beginning of the school year is all about letting the students get to know each other and seeing if NHS is really something they want to be a part of,” Magdal said.

This month students in NHS will take part in a Step food drive where they will be attaching information to food bags.

Junior Nora Sylvestre is an NHS candidate for the first time this year and said she hopes to participate in the food drive.

“As long as it’s for a good cause I’ll be happy to do work no matter how simple,” Sylvestre said.

The NHS program has been successful in the past with getting students to volunteer and this year will be no exception according to Magdal.

“[NHS] has been a great program for so many years and its going to continue being great through finding new ways to get people more involved,” Magdal said.
