After Day One’s previous meeting, the group decided to hold off on spirit week because of the interference of other activities within the school, according to adviser Danya Castro.

During previous meetings in the year, Day One decided to implement a spirit week within the first couple months of school. Since then, the group has postponed the spirit week because of the Sadie Hawkins dance.

According to Castro, the group felt they would hold off due to the Sadie Hawkins dance having a dress code.

“I knew in the back of my head that some other group would be doing something and I didn’t want to step on their feet,“ Castro said.

Junior Sharon Moranga, a member of Day One, said she thinks the postponement of the spirit week is beneficial because of the lack of time.

“[The postponement] is beneficial because then it allows us to have a solid idea on our dress codes and fix any issues if we needed,” Moranga said.

The group plans to continue to try and implement a spirit week in the spring.
