NHS students are putting in their own hours to benefit the community. The individuals taking part have the opportunity to participate in the STEP food drive and help individuals in the community through volunteering.

Participants are going around to neighborhoods in St. Louis Park passing out brown paper bags that were prepared in their last meeting with information on how to donate food or money to the program NHS leader Jenny Magdal said.

“We are passing out these bags to let the community know why we’re doing what we’re doing,” Magdal said.

Junior and first time NHS candidate Cynthia Narine said she is excited for the STEP food drive and is eager to participate in NHS group projects.

“The food drive is those who can give back in the community giving back, it makes our community feel more together,” Narine said.

In addition to preparing brown bags for donations, the NHS members will also be picking up the bags from households and bringing the nonperishables back to STEP for distribution.

“Collecting food will be beneficial because there are people to help out when the community needs it,” Narine said.

While the NHS students participating in the food drive are at STEP they’ll be helping out with packaging the food that is ready for distribution back out into the community.

“Seeing the students doing service through the school is great, it’s so nice to know that everybody has a big part in it all,” Magdal said.
