36 Arts plans to sell handmade notebooks

For its upcoming fundraiser, the 36 Arts club won’t be carting around coupon books, candy bars or magazine subscriptions. Instead they plan on selling one of a kind, handmade notebooks.

According to club adviser Chris Nordmark, members of the club came up with the idea while brainstorming different ways they could raise money to fund the magazine they publish in the spring. While they considered their options, senior member Rachel Potter suggested they do something out of the ordinary and sell something that directly related with the club.

Senior and club member Katie Peterson said she supported the idea right away because of its dual functionality.

“This brings all elements of our club together,” she said. “It also is a way to showcase our own art while allowing students who buy the notebooks to still create art inside of them.”

Nordmark said he was surprised by the idea, but believes it’s a great way for the club to raise money.

“The notebooks highlight the creative nature of the club,” Nordmark said. “It also furthers the goals of the club rather than selling something unrelated.”

While the club is still discussing how exactly they are going to create the notebooks, the idea they are leaning towards is to cover the notebooks in hand made designs including various shapes, lines and colors and then covering it with a sealant paper, in order to appeal to a wide variety of students.

Sophomore Makayla Jones-Klausing said she would be happy to support the club by purchasing a notebook because of the originality of their fundraiser.

“Anyone can sell a box of chocolates, so it’s a really cool idea for them to sell something they designed themselves,” she said.

The exact dates and prices for the fundraiser are still being determined by the club.
