At the beginning of the year, Day One planned to implement a step team to perform at pep fests later on in the year, according to adviser Danya Castro.

Currently, two Day One members, junior Sharon Moranga and freshman Doreen Moranga, took it upon themselves to begin the baby steps toward a step team, Castro said.

“I’m putting [the step team] into [Sharon and Doreen’s] hands,” she said. “They both love dance and music so it’s a good match.”

So far, the Morangas practice routines from YouTube videos and add their own twists to them at home, according to Sharon Moranga.

“We’re trying to incorporate our own take on basic dance videos either at the beginning or end to make it more interesting,” she said. “When we get more comfortable with [the basic routine] we will add our own moves.”

So far, the step team consists of Day One members, but continues to look for students not in the group, according to Doreen Moranga.

“We are constantly looking for others to join Day One and the step team. The more people we have the more interesting our routine will be,” Moranga said.

Day One plans to continue to implement the step team and hopes to perform at the pepfest for snodaze.
