Elizabeth Yetzer is taking the semester off to travel with her husband, who is on tour as a musician, and is replaced by Becky Skramstad.

Skramstad has been teaching for nine years and spent the first semester of this year as a long term sub at Wayzata High School. She is teaching intermediate and advanced algebra courses for second semester.

Math department head Erik Ahlquist said he doesn’t think the change will disrupt learning for students.

“I don’t think it will make much of an impact at all because it’s a good transition period being at the beginning of the semester,” Ahlquist said.

Skramstad said she agreed that it was the best time for such transition, but said she thinks there are still difficulties involved.

“It’s tough not knowing policies and proceedings of the schools,” Skramstad said. “I just got to this school so I’m learning everything brand new.”

Skramstad also said she thinks it will take some time to get to know the students, but she is happy for the fresh start.

“It’s tough to make relationships so quickly, which I think is important,” she said. “But it’s helpful that everyone switches classes at the beginning of the semester.”

Freshman Ellery Deschames, who is in Skramstad’s intermediate algebra class, said she really likes Skramstad’s teaching style.

“She’s a really good teacher, she explains things very well,” Deschames said. “She also makes it more fun by telling a lot of jokes.”

Freshman Brooklyn Donelson agreed, and said she likes the focus on individual teaching Skramstad provides.

“She’s really hands-on, which makes it more interesting and easy to learn,” Donelson said.
