At the last meeting, architecture, construciton and engineering (ACE) club chose the Minneapolis armory as the site of their project instead of the St. Paul Ford parkway, according to junior Owen Geier.

Geier said the club must take the site’s history into account. He said the decision of the Minneapolis Armory was justified on the grounds that it would take less work to revitalize an old building rather than to create an entirely new building.

“This year we decided to use the Minneapolis Armory, which is about two blocks away from the Vikings stadium,” Geier said. “We decided on the Armory because, we were either going to use the other site which had nothing on it or we could use the armory which allows us to revitalize the structure that’s already there. We thought that that would be an easier route so we went with the Armory.”

Geier said the project must take into consideration utilizing both the community and the building’s history.

“We are supposed to show the historical value of the place along with putting something in it that helps the community out,” Geier said. “What we want to do is at the entrance put some kind of museum and then beyond that would be a rec center type building.”

Adviser Al Wachutka said he agrees with the club choosing the armory

“I like the idea of picking the one in Minneapolis rather than the one that is St.Paul because it’s more familiar to them and more meaningful to the students,” Wachutka said.

The club’s next meeting takes place Nov. 12.
