An issue arose April 28 as janitors scrambled to clear water from the pool hallway and girls locker room as a result of a water overflow.

Assistant principal Scott Meyers said as staff fixed an already existing issue with the pool, flooding occurred.

“There was a mechanical issue as they were trying to bring the water level up to it’s normal level,” Meyers said. “It went past that and so we saw the actual pool water coming into the hallway.”

Meyers said staff members took care of the issue quickly.

“Shortly after the flooding, they removed the pool water and the water level went back down. What we have to do now is wait for the chemical levels to balance before we can let people swim in it again,” Meyers said.

Synchronized swimming participant and senior Rose Evensen said the incident is changing how the team practices Monday night.

“We have to deck instead, it’s practicing your routines on land with your arms. It practices the movements you use when you’re actually swimming, but it’s not a major inconvenience,” Evensen said. “

Meyers said the pool shouldn’t be out of use for more than a day, as mechanics investigate whether the flooding could have been prevented and what needs to be done to prevent it in the future.
