Re-evaluate spirit week

With a majority of athletic events, Sno Daze should diversify

By making three of the four snodaze activities athletic events, many students are discouraged from participating out of fear of humiliation.

In the dodgeball event, only one all female team participated and very few girls participated outside of that team.

This is absolutely unacceptable and the activities selected should be events that all students can get excited to participate in, regardless of gender or race not merely one specific group of students. By appealing to all students, Student Council not only gains more money in participation fees, but also may encourage more attendance at other school sponsored events, providing an opportunity for more unity among students as they interact in a social setting.

To do this, Student Council should select activities like trivia games or other fun and competitive non-athletic events.

While making all four events less athletic is unrealistic, half of the events should be changed to reflect a more broad group of student interests.

Additionally this could be addressed in the advertisement of events, potentially having one athletic option and one non-athletic event during each of the four nights of the Sno Daze spirit week.

Another option for Student Council when deciding the events is interspersing the athletic events planned for other spirit weeks with the already planned non-athletic activities during those weeks.

This could include changing the order of events so all of the weeks before dances have a mix of athletic and non-athletic activities so that all students feel welcome to join in on the fun of school events.
