Scrunchies are back in, according to senior Jade LaBelle, who sells these fabric hair ties to classmates.

Labelle said her mother makes the hair accessories at home.

“This year specifically my mom has been like, ‘oh scrunchies are back I’ll just make a bunch you can give them out’,” LaBelle said

Labelle said the small family business has an Instagram page run by both Labelle and her older sister, Suh Koller.

“My mom, she likes to talk to a lot of people and so like all of our neighbors, we’ll tell them about it and they’ll tell friends, so it just passes on I guess,” LaBelle said

According to Suh Koller, while LaBelle sells scrunchies at school, she sells them at the University of Minnesota.

“I sold probably not as much as (LaBelle), but I still sell to coaches, friends and a few girls at sororities,” Koller said.

Koller said requests are taken into consideration when giving out the hair ties made from fabric.

“We make regular scrunchies that are sort of big and then we have a couple that are just like one size smaller, so people can have like a half up do or  if you have thinner hair, you can just buy smaller ones as well,” Koller said.

Koller said she believes her sister is enjoying the whole process of sharing her mom’s craft.

“I think this is a great way for (LaBelle) to be held accountable to kids at her school,” Koller said.  “I am sure it gets her to talk to more kids. They’re fun, they’re cute and not very expensive, so I think it’s great Jade is doing that,” Koller said.

LaBelle said she hopes to continue selling scrunchies for her mom.

“As of now, I feel like it’ll last maybe until the end of the year. It just depends on how many we end up selling. We have (of scrunchies) and have sold tons,” LaBelle said.

LaBelle said she’s selling scrunchies at school almost everyday and the price varies on the size or quality of the scrunchies.
