Practice begins, registration continues

Although the grass isn’t green, the boys’ golf team can still practice in the shade of the Brooklyn Park dome.

This year the team is moving from the North-Suburban conference to the Metro West Conference.

Coach Greg Goddard said he believes the change in conference won’t hinder the team’s success.

“We are looking forward to the new conference. The courses will be fairly nicer and closer than before, and I think our team will have a fair share of success both individually and as a team,” Goddard said.

Captains’ practices start on March 4, while official practices start March 16.

Although practice starts before spring break, tryouts don’t take place until after break. The tryout process is three rounds of nine holes.

In preparation for the beginning of the season, senior captain Tommy Burnett believes players are taking steps to improve before competition starts.

“We hold captains’ practice at the indoor dome in Brooklyn Park where we focus most on our swing and our technical form,” Burnett said.

Junior Henry Feldman said he believes players are also taking advantage of off-season training in the winter months.

“There are a few players like me that take lessons during the winter and hit inside when they can so that we can be the best for the season,” Feldman said.

According to Feldman, the team hopes to have a more successful season than in previous years.

“Last year we had a disappointing ending. We are looking for a lot of improvement and think that the results this year will be better than last,” Feldman said. “We want to compete with the top teams in the conference, and hopefully make it to the second day of sections.”
