Captains lead conditioning and stretching, 15 repeated warm-up lines, practice on beam, bars and floor, all in preparation for the gymnastics team’s upcoming meet.

Head coach Gretchen Novak said the team’s next meet against South Saint Paul will be a non-conference meet, which cannot help or hurt the team in their conference standings.

“South Saint Paul is not in a conference,” Novak said. “We scheduled it mainly for practice and to get a meet in because otherwise our next meet will not be until December 16, which is late.”

Novak said the team treats the meet as if the scores counted for their conference by practicing their routines.

“Scores still count, just not for conference standings, it is still a full meet with judges and everything,” Novak said.

Sophomore varsity gymnast Audrey Scalici said she thinks this meet will bring experience for the team in hopes for improvement.

“It might be a challenge since we have a new conference, but I’m not sure what to expect from the other team because we have never competed against them before,” Scalici said.

Scalici said she is confident about the meet and hopes it helps the team practice for its first conference meet.

“We have started working our routines and I think we will be prepared for our meet,” Scalici said.

Novak said experience will help the gymnasts succeed at their meet because they are familiar with the routines and the whole concept of how meets work.

“Students who have been on the team before will stand out at the meet,” Novak said. “Including Talia Simonett, captain Hannah Holmquist, along with some JV gymnasts who know the ropes as well, like captain Zoe Kedrowski.”

The meet will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2 away at the Central Square Community Center.
