On May 26, Taylor Swift dropped three new songs as a deluxe edition of her tenth studio album, “Midnights.” Two of these three singles were new takes on previously released songs.

Taylor Swift ft. Ice Spice — ‘Karma’ ★★★☆☆

The album started off with “Karma” featuring rapper Ice Spice. As not being much of a Taylor Swift or Ice Spice fan, I didn’t mind the song. I thought the collaboration of the two artists was interesting because of how different the two artists are. I think they did a great job of blending their styles together — they had a good rhythm and they chose a good beat to blend their styles together. I liked how in the music video they were shown as being different, for instance in one clip Taylor Swift was lying down, encrusted into the earth as if she was like a mountain and Ice Spice was a figure in the clouds. Overall, I thought the song was decent. I think this is a classic Taylor Swift song.

Taylor Swift — ‘Hits Different’ ★★☆☆☆

Now onto “Hits Different.” “Hits Different” definitely was not my favorite track. I am not much of a Taylor Swift fan as is. Also I didn’t really like the song because I am more of an upbeat and more fast pace music kinda person. And that’s not what this song really was, it was slower paced, more of what she is known for and I think that’s why I didn’t really like it.

Taylor Swift ft. more Lana Del Rey — ‘Snow on the Beach’ ★★★☆☆

And lastly, there was “Snow on the Beach” ft. more Lana Del Rey. I actually enjoyed this song a lot. I know I said I’m not the biggest fan of slow music, but I think the combination of the artists is what made it better for me. Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey complement each other very well. Their voices mesh together beautifully and their natural tones blend together nicely. That is what made me like the song, even though I am not a big fan of that kind of music.

Overall I think the three songs weren’t bad. I liked the songs that had features. But I enjoyed each song for completely different reasons. I liked the one with Ice Spice because she and Taylor Swift are very different artists in their own respective ways, and I think that is what made me enjoy the song. On top of that, in the music video they showed how different they were and I think that complemented it. For the one with Lana Del Rey, I liked how they complemented each other so well their sounds just came together nice. I didn’t really like the solo song for lack of better terms, it just was not really my cup of tea. I didn’t really like how slow the song was.
