How did you become a part of the front desk staff?
I was brought as an assistant flag football coach by Ms. Ross, who’s one of my good friends, one of my best friends. I fell in love with working with kids and being a part of this community.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Working with kids for sure. Being able to interact with so many of you guys and cultivate relationships (with) kids, they put some life back into (you) for sure. As you get older, you lose things, become a little bit dull and being around you guys is refreshing.
What’s one thing people might not realize about your job at the front desk?
There are a lot of different things going on at once that we are trying to balance. It’s helpful that (the other front desk worker and I are) a tag team duo. Any given moment, there’s typically a lot of stuff going on, and I promise, we are trying to hit the button at the door.
How has your experience been so far working here?
Super good. Everybody’s super kind to me, staff and students included, and so far it’s been a positive environment. I enjoy having to work every day, and it’s not because of anything but the nature of the job.
What do you like to do outside of school?
I like to hang out with my family, friends, watch and play sports, work out and just kick it.
How do you stay positive when things get busy at the front desk?
Just taking it one step at a time and understanding that everything will be okay. It’s not going to be the end of the world if something doesn’t go how I want it to, or if something is taking a lot out of me. At the end of the day, I’ll be okay, and everything will be okay, so there’s not much distress about it. Eventually, things will get better and I understand that I’m always exactly where I’m supposed to be.
What advice would you give to kids for the rest of the year?
Continue to try to pursue and discover what makes you passionate, things that make your heart feel full (and) things that aren’t destructive to yourself and others, but genuinely make you feel like you’re producing something that you’re proud of, and that makes you happy, and then don’t be afraid of discovery.
