With 14 players returning to varsity, the girls’ soccer team looks forward to playing in a new conference and with younger players.

According to senior captain Becca Brubaker, she looks forward to improving on and off the field.

“We have a lot of returners and I want to improve our plays on the field and create attacks and scoring opportunities,” she said. “I also want to grow together and play tighter as a team.”

Head coach Benjy Kent said he thinks having many returning players will help the team have a successful season.

“We have some additional younger players coming in,” he said. “My goals are to win a playoff game and to give up 2 or fewer goals per game. However, the most important thing is to have a good experience playing as a team.”

With two freshman and eight sophomores on varsity, Brubaker said she thinks this will help the team grow in the next couple of years.

“It’s fun to have younger players because it gives us a ton of potential to do well and grow for the next couple of years,” Brubaker said.

Park lost their first game 0-2 against Robbinsdale Armstrong on Aug 21. They won 3-0 at home against Minneapolis South on Aug 25. Junior Emily Hinz scored two goals and freshman Rafferty Kugler had one goal. Sophomores Lauren VonEschen and Samantha Baer both had one assist each.
