The class of 2019 throws their caps in the air after graduation June 7. Minnesota Department of Health and Department of Education announced May 8 that large scale in-person graduations are prohibited for the class of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This great horned owl visited me in my backyard last spring. I have seen great horned owls multiple times near my home. Editing has become a part of the art I create in wildlife photography. Post processing for my photos does not follow the same ethical standards of journalism — elements of a photo can be taken out at my discretion.

Seeing a snowy owl in the Twin Cities area truly was a treat for me. My encounter with this owl lasted only a minute or two but it is one I will cherish forever.

Even mallards, which I see pretty commonly, can make for nice photography subjects. This image was captured at Lake Harriet in early winter. This photo stands out to me because of the tiny water droplet on the bill of the mallard.

This subarctic great horned owl, identifiable by its lighter color, showed up in my backyard early this winter. I was able to find this owl after hearing crows and blue jays mobbing it, a common sign of the presence of a bird of prey.

Two common goldeneyes float on Lake Harriet. I was able to enjoy the presence of these birds just before the water froze over.

While near Lake Harriet, I glanced to my right and saw these two bald eagles perched together. I was able to spend some time with them before they both flew away. Bald eagles were one of the first birds that I enjoyed watching, as I was fascinated by their impressive fishing technique where they catch fish while gliding over the water.

A red fox trots through my backyard this past spring. I was super excited to finally photograph a fox after a long time had passed without seeing one. I believe that if you look for wildlife wherever you are, there is a strong chance you will find something, whether it be a squirrel or this red fox.

In my neighborhood I was able to photograph this wild turkey. Out of a group of a couple turkeys, only this male was fanned out. I love the colors on this image, making it one of my all time favorites.

A glance out of my dining room window early this winter lead to an encounter with this young red shouldered hawk. I ran to get my camera after seeing it and am grateful to have had multiple encounters since.

Songs such as "Hear Ye! Hear Ye!" and "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" were combined choir performances.
