I love animals, the environment and especially laughing with some good friends, sometimes even over a good meme. I am constantly busy because I over book my life, and I love dancing like nobodys watching. Freshman Erick Erickson said he chose to draw Frank Ocean because he appreciates his music as well as his contribution to black history. “I figured Frank Ocean was a pioneer for black gay people. I personally love him and his music. I listen to his albums of repeat and he’s an icon to me,” Erickson said.

Junior Amanda Glidden said she chose to draw Percy L. Julian because of his careers and contributions. “I chose Percy L. Julian because he was one of the first black chemists. He also worked for the Glidden paint company which I was surprised about. He’s an interesting man,” Glidden said.

Junior Ava Townsend said she chose to draw Nikki Giovanni because her poetry is inspiring to her. “I chose draw Nikki Giovanni because she had very important role in the black power and black arts movement. She’s inspiring because her poems have been described as militant at first just because she was very into her cause and I really admire that about her. Her poems get really deep and personal,” Townsend said.

Freshman Josiah Wright said he chose to draw Jackie Robinson because he is inspiring to him. “He is my favorite baseball player. He didn’t quit even though he (was) bullied a lot and he got hurt, but he never stopped,” Wright said.

Sophomore Abby Mcguire said she chose to draw Jean-Michel Basquiat because her grandmother would talk about how he changed people’s views of street art. “I drew Jean-Michel Basquiat. I chose to draw him because he was around when my Grandma was around. I’ve heard her tell stories about him about how she recognized him as the person who brought street art to be seen as a real form of art, not just scribbling on the walls,” Mcguire said.

Freshman Gary Hitt said he chose to draw Emmett Till because he goes unknown in the classrooms despite his role in history. “I feel like he is a big part of African American history. His death essentially started the Civil Rights Movement and that’s not something we would learn about in school,” Hitt said.
